2,200 Puerto Rico and USVI hurricane evacuee households have come to New York City since Hurricanes Irma and Maria wrought destruction on the islands in September 2017. Since October 2017, NYDIS played a critical role at New York City Emergency Management’s (NYCEM) Hurricane Evacuee Service Center (HESC) in East Harlem, which operated for 71 days and served 2,082 households.

Un Manejador de Caso por Desastre puede referirte a Puerto Rico- United Sates’ Virgin Islands Unmet Needs Roundtable (UNR) lo cual le provee con asistencia pagando el deposito de seguridad, primer mes de renta, el costo por los servicio de Broker, le compramos furnetura basica, asistencias para deudas relacionadas al Huracan, costo por transportacion, temenos mas servicos.

Did you evacuate to NYC from Puerto Rico or the United States Virgin Islands after the 2017 Hurricanes?
If so, you are eligible for Disaster Case Management assistance, funded by New York State. A Disaster Case Manager can connect you with resources for employment, food and medical needs, mental health services, permanent housing programs based on eligibility and much more.
A Disaster Case Manager will also connect you to the Puerto Rico – United States’ Virgin Islands Unmet Needs Roundtable (UNR) which provides direct financial assistance for security deposits, first month’s rent, broker fees, new furniture, storm-related debt relief, transportation costs, and much more.

NYDIS Programs and Services
NYDIS conducted exit interviews and unmet needs assessments on 2,065 households and was one of the few agencies providing emergency vouchers for food, clothing, and medication, assisting 1,064 families with $160,475 in direct funding to evacuees in NYC. Based on ongoing communications, NYDIS estimates that 15% of households will return, or have returned to Puerto Rico. NYDIS is in contact with 830 NYC based evacuee households in need of disaster case management. NYDIS is continuously offering evacuee services, including an assistance referral line (347-941-1691), emergency food & medication vouchers, emotional & spiritual care, as well as financial assistance with deposits, broker fees and furniture for new apartments. Through the NYDIS administered NYC Evacuee Unmet Needs Roundtable, NYDIS, and our partners may also be able to pay for transportation to return home to Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
